The Tar River Philharmonic Orchestra & Chorus is affiliated with the Wesleyan College. Established in 1986, this group plays at least six major performances each season, running from October until April. Included in this musical group is an orchestra, a swing band and a choir. Most of the concerts are held at the Dunn Center for the Performing Arts on the college campus.

The purpose of this orchestra is to preserve the American culture of Jazz. They perform concerts and recordings, their CDs can be purchased. They first began performing in 1993. Their performances include classic jazz and big band music. The band travels to far places.

This community Orchestra has been performing for over 25 years. In 1977, this orchestra first incorporated as a not-for-profit organization. The orchestra can be rented for private functions. Rentals can be for select members, single members and more. Rates are charged based on distance and time.
