Bennett Place State Historic Site The Bennett House is the location where the civil war ended in 1865 and the remaining troops were surrendered to General T. Sherman. A surrender re-enactment is held every April. Guided tours of the property are offered. Several exhibits are displayed including photographs, uniforms, flags and guns. Boyette Slave & Schoolhouse This structure was originally a dwelling for slaves that were owned by the Boyette family. It was later used as a schoolhouse for the Boyette children and others from the surrounding area. Visitors can get a true feel for North Carolina's history when visiting this log cabin.
