The planetarium is one of the largest in the United States. Located at the north end of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill campus. The Star Theater is 68-feet in height. Featured is their 24-inch Cassegrain reflecting telescope. Teaching and informing the comunity for over 50 years.

Interactive displays about recycling, space, science and animals are only some of the permanent displays at Rocky Mount's Children's Museum. Established in 1952, this science museum has been encouraging children to care about environmental concerns, to enjoy science and to learn through hands-on activities. The facility is open Monday to Wednesday and Friday from 10am to 5pm; Thursday from 10am to 8pm; Saturday from 12pm to 5pm; and Sunday from 2pm to 5pm.
